St Mary's Catholic Primary School

Live, Love, Believe

Welcome to St Mary's!

A warm welcome to you from all of us at St Mary's Catholic Primary School!

We are a small one form entry Catholic school situated in the seaside town of Ryde on the (usually) sunny Isle of Wight. We are very fortunate to have extensive grounds surrounding the school - woods, a field, a pond -

as well as being within easy and safe walking distance of the beach.

We make good use of our wonderful surroundings and take as much of our learning outside as we can from our very youngest children in Reception, right up to our wonderful Y6s.

Children are well supported in class with their learning by our talented and experienced teachers and learning support assistants.  Some children may need additional support from time to time in their journey through school - this can be a short intervention to "plug a gap" or  a longer term intervention to address a specific need. Working together with our Special Educational Needs lead (SENDCo) - Ms Jacqui Barnden, you can be sure that your child will receive the support needed to help them make progress.

We also provide a Nurture Support Group, led by Mrs Beere and supported by Mrs Wiltshire. The aim of our Nurture group is to provide children with a safe environment to explore their own feelings and their relationships with others, both in and out of school.

While we are a Catholic school, we welcome children from all religions and from none to our school community. We do ask that all in our school - adults and children alike - respect our Catholic ethos, uphold our Mission - Live, Love, Believe - and the seven virtues which underpin that Mission. This includes daily acts of worship, attendance at school masses and church services.

We also welcome parents into school to hear readers or help out in class or on trips: sadly the current restrictions due to Covid-19 prevent us from doing so this term - but we look forward to a return to near normal soon!

We offer a number of different after school clubs to different year groups across the year - these include gym, multi-skills, football, cricket, tennis as well as Origami, art, chess, Lego... some are run by external sports coaches, some by parent volunteers and some by school staff. Details of each half term's clubs and the costs are sent home in advance; once payment is received, the place is booked for your child.

We also offer a Breakfast Club and an After School Club, both of which should be booked and paid for in advance.

We are fortunate also to have music teachers come into school weekly - guitar lessons, drums, keyboards are on offer and we have regular sessions through the Music Hub for classes to learn a musical instrument: so far, ukuleles have been popular and we are looking forward to djembe and samba next year!

We would love you to visit our lovely school and meet the children - we really hope this will be possible again soon. In the meantime,  please click on the New to St Mary's tab or look under the Children tab - Video Resource Centre - to see a video of our Reception children and see what a typical day in Reception looks like.

Under the Gallery tab, you will see many photos of our school environment and the children too.

We look forward to welcoming you to our school!
